This weekend Megan Steward and Tyler Wright will be tying the knot and we are SOOO excited to be a part of their wedding!!! I know that Megan has been counting down the days until her big day and I can’t believe it’s almost here! We wanted to rewind to their engagement session from last summer and share some images in celebration of their wedding weekend! I can’t believe we haven’t shared these Ferris Wheel Engagement Session photos on our blog before now! Tyler popped the question at the top of a Ferris Wheel, so it was only appropriate to incorporate one during their engagement session last summer!!! Plus, who doesn’t LOVE the Marion County Fair in Salem, IL? Such a fun summer tradition!
Before hitting up the Marion County Fair for our nighttime Ferris Wheel photos – we captured the rest of their engagement session down the road… Can you guess where these images were taken? Hint – that bridge & walkway can be found somewhere between Route 161 and Highway 50!
If you guessed Kaskaskia College Campus, you guessed right! Who knew that this nearly 200 acre campus would be the perfect location for our photo shoot!!! Fun fact: Garren and I both attended Kaskaskia College, but not at the same time. We met during my sophomore year at Kaskaskia while he was studying psychology at SIU Carbondale.
The custom baseball shirts were PERFECT for their engagement session! We had so much fun doing some ball field photos! These two would look adorable with any backdrop, seriously! We are pumped to get to photograph them again this weekend and be their trusted photographers!

There are some nights when you’re just feeling a little extra quirky and fun… Last night during this engagement session at A Fair Barn was definitely one of those nights for us! I literally couldn’t stop giggling with our couple! LOVE the cute & snuggly shots we captured during our engagement session with Kristen & Stephen! How incredibly cute are they!? And you know what’s even sweeter..? Their personalities are JUST as sweet as their smiles! When Kristen first contacted me about their wedding we talked about how even though they were traveling all the way from Texas for their wedding it was so important to make time for a quick engagement session! The time we spend together during the engagement session helps us get to know our clients and really eases the pressure of photos for the wedding day. Once we’ve spent an hour or two being goofy and posing for an engagement session – couples are PROS on the wedding day! The ‘rolling hills’ of Southern Illinois are few and far between, but there is a sweet little spot out at one of our favorite venues A Fair Barn in Salem, IL and the colors are just beautiful this time of year! Spring is such a gorgeous time for photos! Everything is brighter and the colors are just so vibrant! We are so thankful that we could shoot this engagement session at A Fair Barn (which is just down the road from our BRAND NEW STUDIO on Lazy Acres Road in Salem!) and we will be back Saturday for their wedding festivities!
Kristen shared a little about when Stephen popped the question & we wanted to share the mushy details!!
“We found a brochure for “North Alabama Wine Trail” Jan 8, 2016, a semester before I graduated, Stephen mentioned we should go on this trail. We drove 2 hours to the beginning of the trail and worked our way back home. On the map there were six wineries we had to travel to across north Alabama. At each we got free wine tastings, a stamp in our “wine passport” and we ended up buying a bottle of wine from each. This was the first time we had tried muscadine wine, like the kind in the country songs. By the time we got the final winery, we were in the mountains, and the sun was setting. We took a walk on their little trail out back. There were 20-30 geese we were walking towards before we saw a giant ant hill. I went to investigate is and after taking too long I guess, Stephen called my name where I turned around to find him down on one knee. I said yes!“
We are so excited to finally share Rayla Barnfield and Aaron Bolton’s Chicago Engagement Session from this summer on our blog!! It’s been a whirlwind of sessions, weddings, and editing and we are catching up! Rayla and Aaron were SO adorable together and we were so thrilled to get to photograph their engagement session!
Chicago is nothing short of stunning when it comes to a background – so many amazing places and colors for fun photos! I’ve always wanted to visit shoot a Chicago Engagement Session and let me tell you – it did not disappoint! Definitely a change from our typical Southern Illinois scenery, haha! Skyscrapers, fountains, city lights… all things that scream CITY! I was in love! During our session we visited Navy Pier, the Chicago Riverwalk, Buckingham Fountain, and ended at the Planetarium for some nighttime cityscape photos! Navy Pier ferris wheel is such a neat backdrop for photos! These two photos were shot while we were waiting on a Uber ride – lots of time spent in traffic, waiting on cabs/uber cars, and traveling – but SO worth it! We purposely plan extra time for city sessions because of this! And when we travel for a session – we always want to make sure we have ample time to get all the awesome new areas covered! We had never visited the Chicago Riverwalk before this trip and it was definitely worth stopping at for photos! It made a gorgeous backdrop! And how ridiculously sweet are these two!? I just love this snuggly image of Rayla & Aaron! Who knew that Buckingham Fountain in Chicago had a gorgeous rose garden next to it? So amazing! And it looked like we purposefully picked Aaron’s shirt for these photos, but it was just by chance that he matched the flowers so perfectly!! Catching Buckingham Fountain in Chicago for these sweet sunset photos couldn’t have been more perfect! The fountain lights were starting to shine and the city lights were starting to twinkle creating the perfect backdrop for their session! And we were lucky enough to snag a spot by the fountain that wasn’t flooded with people, too!We ended our Chicago Engagement Session with Rayla and Aaron at the Chicago Planetarium for some amazing nighttime skyline photos with the gorgeous city lights as a backdrop!!!
Sharrah and Jarrod are two of the sweetest people!!! These two love birds are tying the knot on June 18th this year and we cannot wait to photograph their special day!
A note from the bride:
We met when I came to my first service at the Apostolic Church here in Salem.. We didn’t really talk to each other except hey here and there.. We started talking around February of 2013 and by March 11 we were dating! So many laughs and memories that I could write a book!
Now to the proposal.. He asked January 1st 2016! After two years going on three years of dating he finally popped the question! His sister was moving away to work at Tupelo children’s mansion in Mississippi and it was her last weekend here so they all wanted to do something. We decided to go ice skating. Little did I know that after my third lap around I would skate up to Jarrod asking the magic 4 word sentence, “Will you marry me?” He even planned for my parents and grandparents to be there! I didn’t even see them until after I said yes! It was an awesome surprise!
My favorite part about planning the wedding so far was going and getting my dress. It was so special to have my mom, grandma, his mom, my aunt and cousin there. I also like going through all of this with my mom and sharing the experience with her. We look forward to the many years ahead of us. He will forever be my always!
